What is Taglit-Birthright Israel?
Taglit-Birthright Israel is an unique opportunity for young adults, ages 18-26, who have not been on an organized trip, to experience Israel on a free ten-day peer trip. Since its founding in 2000, more than 160,000 young adults from all different Jewish backgrounds have traveled to Israel with Taglit-Birthright. Funded by Jewish philanthropists, local Jewish Federations and the Israeli government, Taglit-Birthright Israel hopes that these gifts will create a stronger bond between Israel and the Diaspora Jews and will strengthening the solidarity between Israeli youth and Jewish communities.
Taglit-Birthright Israel works as an umbrella organization, setting standards and procedural guidelines that then allows certified organizations (or trip organizers) to implement and develop specific itineraries that best suit the group going. Although each trip is unique, each follows a set basic itinerary that allows for the participant to gain a balanced sense of Israel. Most trips include a visit to archeological sites, Jerusalem, museums, the Dead Sea, Tel Aviv and the North, memorials, outdoor hikes, climbing and touring Masada and time spent with Israeli peers (usually students or soldiers).
Who is giving this gift?
Taglit-Birthright Israel is an innovative partnership between the people of Israel through the Government of Israel, private philanthropists through the Birthright Israel Foundation and Jewish communities around the world (North American Jewish Federations through the United Jewish Communities (UJC); the Jewish Agency for Israel; and Keren Hayesod.
